Karen Watson Karen’s interests in healthy living began after her first child was born. Wanting to get back to health; joining a fitness centre lead to 15 years as a Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor and a passion for body building. These careers increased her interest in the health industry. The big change in Karen’s career came 18 years ago, when she became a Sugar practitioner and educator of Hair removal and learned first hand how the skin is the first line of defence and can also indicate many issues within the body. And again 3 years later when returning to education and her passion for health she became a Registered Reflexologist, actively practicing since 2008. During those years she has also increased her knowledge and skills taking several courses in different techniques and modalities for massage, cupping, skin treatments, auricular therapy etc. Beginning in 2019 Karen has followed her passion and completed the 3 year full time study to become a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner at the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is where the real passion for health care became a reality. As Karen waits to write her board exams she is excited to use her Reflexology, multiple modalities and knowledge to help those who have made the choice to live life in their best health. Karen has worked with Reflexology in many areas from cancer patients undergoing treatment, elderly, children, pre surgery and post surgery issues, to weight issues, headaches, insomnia, grief etc. Reflexology removes stress, activating a parasympathetic (nervous system) response in the body to enable blockages to be released by physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation enhanced, the body is allowed to turn to a state of homeostasis (the automatic process the body incorporates to bring it back to the “normal” state. This is why reflexology is beneficial for removing stress, enhanced circulation, assists body to normalize metabolism naturally and complements all other healing modalities. So whether you are well, having issues, loosing weight, dealing with headaches, there is a place for reflexology in your life. Working with Dr. Wu and the Wu’s Head Massage allows for a gentle yet non invasive method to help with many issues. The head is the capital of the human body. Massaging specific acupoints on the scalp and face in a specific manner and sequence can treat the entire body. Yes, from facial aging & wrinkles, headaches, insomnia, tension in the neck, numbness, spasms of upper extremities, help with bodies immunity and more. Using this treatment Karen has helped with Insomnia, busy mind, headaches, tension, and more. The ears are said to be the shape of an infant upside down. Therefore there are many ways to treat issues and concerns of the body through the ears. Whether it be with Moxa (herb), Vaccarie seeds or massage. Working with auricular therapy on the ears can accentuate other treatments helping to enhance the affects or lasting longer. My personal favourite is the “Battle field” protocol for treating pain in the body. If blood doesn’t move in the body it becomes stagnant (stasis). When this happens there will be pain, whether from injury, lack of circulation etc. Karen has been using cupping for 2 years and has found great results dealing with Acute, chronic tension, discomfort concerns as well as treating slow lymphatic systems and facial rejuvenation, softening scar tissue, reduce painful trigger points, improve blood and lymph circulation, relieve pain, promote mobility and range of motion, decrease toxins. As a mother who has raised 4 children, and now enjoys 3 grandchildren, she especially enjoys seeing young children benefit from TuiNa massage and sharing the knowledge to parents who can be more effective with home care. TuiNa Massage comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine and is over 3000 - 5000 years old. TuiNa goes beyond the muscles, bones and joints to work with the body on a deeper, energetic level. The main benefit of TuiNa massage is that it focuses on the specific problem, whether it is an acute or a chronic pain associated with the joints, muscles or a skeletal system. This technique is very beneficial in reducing the pain of neck, shoulders, hips, back, arms, highs, legs and ankle disorders. It is a very effective therapy for arthritis, pain, sciatica and muscle spasms. Other benefits of this massage therapy include alleviation of the stress related disorders like insomnia, constipation, headaches and other disorders related to digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems. On it’s own or blended with other modalities, TuiNa is beneficial for all ages, and can be done alone over loose clothing or combined with a massage.
